Kia is recalling more than 427,000 of its Telluride SUVs due to a defect that may cause the cars to roll away while they're parked. Kia America decided to recall all 2020-2023 model year and select 2024 model year Tellurides earlier this month, NHTSA documents show. Kia America estimates that 1% have the defect. To remedy this issue, recall documents say, dealers will update the affected cars' electronic parking brake software and replace any damaged intermediate shafts for free. The Associated Press reached out to Irvine, California-based Kia America for further comment Sunday.

CNN —Kia has recalled 427,407 of its Telluride SUVs because they can roll away while in park. Demand for the Telluride has been so high that in some years, Kia couldn’t produce them fast enough. According to the NHTSA report, though, a main component of the SUV’s steering wheel may have been improperly assembled on the recalled vehicles. The report said affected vehicles could make a grinding noise when the damage occurs. All affected Telluride owners should bring their cars to a Kia dealer to get updated electronic parking brake software installed.

For more than half a century, a coterie of critics and filmmakers has been making the case for what’s known as auteur theory: the idea that great directors are the central creative forces behind their films, shaping them just as authors shape their books. But outside a relatively small pantheon of great filmmakers, most directors have continued to be overshadowed, at least in the public eye, by their movie stars. The Hollywood strikes are changing that. With striking actors forbidden by their union from promoting studio films, directors suddenly have the spotlight largely to themselves, if somewhat reluctantly. They have been the main attractions at recent film festivals in Venice, Telluride and Toronto and on press tours that were once organized around A-list movie stars.

NEW YORK (AP) — “The Nun 2” and “A Haunting in Venice” virtually tied for the No. In its second weekend of release, Warner Bros.' “The Nun 2,” a spinoff from the studio's lucrative “Conjuring” franchise, grossed $14.7 million. If numbers hold, that will give “The Nun 2” (up to $56.5 million total and $158.8 million worldwide) the top spot at the box office for the second straight week. In three weeks, its grossed $73.7 million domestically and $132.4 million worldwide. Fourth place went to "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3” with $4.7 million in its second weekend of release.

But no amount of natural beauty can overcome the low-level of anxiety that coursed through this mountain town over Labor Day weekend. With dual strikes raging in Hollywood — the writers’ strike just hit four months — no one wants to appear out of step with these unprecedented times. “It was hell getting here,” Julie Huntsinger, the executive director of the Telluride Film Festival, said in an interview. Unlike most film festivals, Telluride is more of a viewing than sales opportunity — though some filmmakers do attend in search of distribution partners.

With summer movie season at its midpoint, Hollywood typically begins to turn its gaze toward the fall, when a trio of major film festivals acts as the unofficial kickoff to Oscar season. That’s because SAG-AFTRA is prohibiting members from promoting any film while the strike is on, an across-the-board ban that includes interviews, photo calls and red-carpet duties. Without those appearances, festivals will be sapped of the star power that is invaluable to raising a film’s profile.
